Health Services


MapleOur university is concerned about each student's overall well-being while enrolled at MU. As such, one of the services we provide is an on-campus health clinic that meets the normal, day-to-day health needs of our students.  

Students are able to use this service at no additional charge. However, in order to serve the health needs of our students, the clinic staff needs to have appropriate information about each student's health history and their current state of health.

Mansfield University believes that this information is so important that it requires all incoming students to complete a Health Evaluation Report Form. This form must be turned in to the Health Clinic/WellnessCenter, prior to the start of classes.The form can be mailed to Mansfield University Health Clinic, 125 Clinton Street, Suite W002, Mansfield, PA16933.

Health Care Services for MU students are provided by personnel at our on-campus clinic located on the ground floor of Spruce. The clinic is staffed with a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), and an Adminnistrative Assistant. However, with the opening of the new housing in Spruce Hall in October, a new Health Clinic/Wellness Center will open there.

The information below answers the questions most often asked about health care services. If your question isn't answered here, contact the Clinic at 570-662-4350. They can refer you to an off-campus service if needed.

Who is eligible for services?

Comprehensive primary health care services are provided to registered full and part-time undergraduate and full-time graduate students while the university is in session.

This includes:

Undergraduate:
Full-time 12+ credits
Part-time 7-11 credits

Graduate:
Full-time 9+ credits

You must present your currently validated student I.D. card at your appointment. Also, it is important for you and your physician to have completed the Health Evaluation medical questionnaire and submit it to staff at Orientation! This will provide clinic staff with very valuable medical history should you need treatment. Failure to submit the questionnaire could delay the most appropriate treatment when needed later.

What is meant by "Comprehensive Primary Health Care Services?"

Services covered by the health fee paid each semester are:

  • Primary evaluation, diagnosis, prescription and treatment of common conditions
  • Vision examinations
  • Some laboratory testing, including blood sugar, strep screen, and urine dipstick
  • Personal health counseling, including dietary conseling, personal hygiene and family planning counseling (reproductive health education and appropriate referral)
  • Athletic physicals
  • Medications to treat an acute illness or injury, (some antibiotics, antihistamines, anti-inflammatory, steroids, analgesic preparations, cough/cold preparations)
  • Some surgical procedures, which can be performed in the health care facility
  • Many treatments which can be performed in the health care facility
  • Allergy injections when students provide their own serum

What services are charged to MU students?

All ancillary testing and services will be billed directly to you.

How do I make an appointment?

If you are ill, call the Clinic at 570-662-4350 for an appointment.

If you need to be seen the day you call and there are no appointment vacancies, ask to speak to a nurse. The nurse will evaluate your symptoms and determine the appropriate course of action.

If you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment, call and cancel it.  

If you have emergency symptoms, you may be seen without an appointment. CALL FIRST.

Clinic Hours are:

  • Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 8:00 to 4:30 PM
  • Tuesday and Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM 

A nurse is available during those times.

Appointments can be made to see the Nurse Practitioner on:

  • Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10:45 AM to 4:15 PM
  • Tuesday and Friday from 8:00 AM to 1:45 PM

Are health services provided when the university is not in session?

No.

Are prescriptions from my own physician covered?

No. Only prescriptions from physicians affiliated with MU are covered.

Will I be able to get an excuse for class absence from the doctor?

No. (See Absence Policy in the Undergraduate Catalog).

Transportation to area health care facilities:

The University has an arrangement with the community ambulance service to provide emergency transportation to area hospitals. Students' health insurance will be billed for this service by the Ambulance Association. The University may also support return trips to campus and some transportation to other medical appointments via a volunteer service utilizing student drivers when available.

Students are strongly encouraged to have some type of accident/health insurance. The university makes a low cost accident/health insurance policy available through outside providers if you do not have some other coverage.
