The Mansfield University Police Department has received the second report of theft of cell phones that have occurred recently from the gym of the Kelchner Fitness Center. The Department is actively investigating these reports and asks anyone who has seen any suspicious persons or activities to report them immediately to the first floor of Doane Center, 662-4900.

All persons should use precautions to prevent theft by locking lockers where items are stored, and not leaving anything of value unsecured.

 

May 10, 2013 9 P.M.

On Friday, May 10, 2013, the Mansfield University Police Department received a report of an attempted simple assault, which allegedly occurred between 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013 outside Decker gymnasium at the northwest corner.

The female victim asked the suspect, who is unknown to her, for a light for a cigarette and after walking away from him he grabbed her from behind causing them to both fall to the ground. The suspect then placed his forearm on her throat preventing her from getting up. The victim was able to regain her footing and fled to her vehicle parked near Allen Hall. The victim sustained no injuries.

The suspect, first recorded as a black male in his early to mid twenties in age, is described as a white male in his mid to late twenties, approximately 5'10", 170 lb., scruffy beard, a tattoo with writing on his left forearm, wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt with white drawstrings and baggy blue jeans. The suspect may have injuries to his face and nose.

The Department is actively investigating this incident and is seeking anyone who attended the Mac Miller concert at Decker on May 9, 2013 who may have seen anything suspicious related to this assault to contact the department by coming to the first floor of Doane Center, or by calling 570-662-4900. The Mansfield University Police Department responded to a report of an explosion on the west side of Maple Manor on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at approximately 10:45 p.m. Police discovered that a bottle bomb had gone off outside Maple Manor and a second bottle had not yet ruptured. Police neutralized the intact bottle.

These devices are dangerous and can cause injury to anyone handling them or to anyone in the area when they are released.

Upon apprehension, possible charges to the responsible party or parties include disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, arson with explosive, possessing explosive or incendiary material, and criminal conspiracy.

The Department is actively investigating this incident and asks anyone who has any information about these activities or who has seen any suspicious persons inside or around Maple Manor at the time of this incident to report them immediately to the first floor of Doane Center, 570-662-4900.
