Earn certifications through the American Heart Association and the Emergency Care and Safety Institute at your own pace through Mansfield University’s online learning environment.

The Program

Module 1 Initial Assessment, CPR and AED for the healthcare provider: (11 hours)

  • Initial Action-Primary Survey
  • CPR for the Healthcare Provider
  • AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

Module 2 Wound Assessment and Care: (9 hours)

  • Anatomical Review
  • Wound Classification
  • Bleeding
  • Shock
  • Burns
  • Bandaging

Module 3 Special Injuries and Body Area: (9 hours)

  • Head and Spine Injuries
  • Chest, Abdomen, and Pelvic Cavity Injuries
  • Bone, Joint, and Musculo-tendonous Injuries
  • Extremity Injuries
  • Splinting

Module 4 Environmental Injuries and Illnesses: (8 hours)

  • Poisons
  • Bites & Stings
  • Poisonous Plants
  • Heat Emergencies
  • Cold Emergencies
  • Altitude and Submersion Injuries
  • Lightening Emergencies

Module 5 Illnesses, Evacuation, and Disaster Preparedness: (8 hours)

  • Diabetic Emergencies and Allergic Reactions
  • Behavioral Emergencies
  • Evacuation – Lifts and Carries
  • Disaster Preparedness

Students may come to Mansfield University on an identified testing date to complete their basic life support practicum or their closest AHA testing center (additional charges may apply).
