The 2014 Summer Gifted & Talented camp will provide your child with the opportunity to explore new interests and learn new life skills while making new friends. Students select and participate in fun, educational activities.
This summer our theme is Community Building - One Community, One Future! This year we will be exploring what it takes to build a community and how we can work together to improve our world for generations to come. Throughout the week, campers will find new ways to perceive their own communities through the lens of science, math, history and the arts.
Come join us and learn how to use your mind and body in new, exciting ways! Our teachers and counselors are ready to welcome you with open arms and make this year your best camp experience ever! Don't forget to bring your sneakers!
Nick Horner and Katie Debach
Nick and Katie return to the Gifted Camp as the camp directors for the summer of 2014. Nick received his Bachelors in Music Performance from Bucknell University and currently serves as Spring Fellow for Make Music New York, a non-profit dedicated to enhancing musical culture across New York City. He is a dedicated composer and academic and has worked with students of varying ages and interests across the east coast, including recent tenure at the Interlochen Center for the Arts with young artists from around the world. This is Nick's 5th summer working with the Gifted Camp.
Katie Debach has been teaching, counseling and directing at the Mansfield Gifted Camp for 5 summers, and looks forward to returning this year as director and teacher. She graduated from Mansfield University in 2011 with a degree in Music Education, and currently works at the Roberson Museum and Science Center in Binghamton, NY teaching students of all ages. She enjoys playing the ukulele, telling bedtime stories and singing, and her favorite thing about gifted camp is getting to know the campers!
Nick and Katie are excited for the opportunity to engage with the students, challenge them and explore new ways for them to learn! They are looking forward to seeing returning campers and meeting new ones and working with students on all levels!
Our instructors are college professors, public school teachers, or professionals with expertise and a sincere interest in working with children. Counselors spend 24 hours a day with the campers. Our 1:10 ratio of counselors to campers provides a safe, educational experience. Campers reside in a Mansfield University residence hall.
Your child will choose three academic offerings from a variety of classes. "Click Here" for a listing of our 2014 classes. Class sizes are limited for personalized instruction and are filled on a first-come-first-served basis. Parents and friends are welcome to attend the closing Spotlight, showcasing each camper's completed projects.
Like last year, the evening group project will continue to include technology, however, with a different direction. Be ready to take notes and develop an action plan to share with others what you have learned in your classes throughout the week!
